BIO

Abel Cárcamo Segovia, born in 1990 in Santiago, Chile, is a designer and artist who blends the heritage of Chilean craftsmanship with contemporary influences. Since the beginning of his career, he has constantly explored the infinite possibilities of materials and forms, always striving to push the boundaries of his work.
His creative approach is deeply influenced by periods of transition, those moments when the past and the future meet. For him, these moments of uncertainty, where the remnants of the past merge with emerging new realities, are a constant source of inspiration.

Philosophy
ATELIER-STUDIO

Abel has dedicated his career to the development of unique or limited-edition pieces and objects, aiming to preserve the value of traditional techniques and their use over time. He pays careful attention to the details of each process, while also embracing the natural imperfections, which distinguish each piece. It is in these imperfections that the soul and emotional connection to the objects are ultimately found.

In his Parisian studio, Abel sculpts his materials with artisanal precision, reflecting his respect for manual work and his search for harmony between elements. He handles materials such as plaster with delicacy, creating works that seek a balance between solidity and emptiness, lightness and heaviness. The meticulously worked plaster allows him to create textures and fluid shapes that seem to capture the light, giving his creations great expressiveness.

MATERIALS

Over the years, Abel has researched and developed a unique approach to working with plaster, a traditional technique that serves as the foundation of his collections and projects. His work is inspired by primitive gestures and shapes, and the way these elements coexist in a functional context for everyday use. Abel is particularly fascinated by how these forms, seemingly simple yet deeply symbolic, can be transformed into objects that hold both aesthetic and practical value.
Collaborative work has also played a key role in his artistic journey, especially through the use of new technologies and partnerships with specialized workshops skilled in materials such as bronze, wood, and resin. These collaborations have been crucial to the development and practice of his work.
For Abel, the knowledge of these techniques and processes acts as a guide, helping him understand the limitations of each material. However, it is precisely by pushing these boundaries that Abel is able to uncover new possibilities, offering innovative solutions in each of his projects.

RESEARCH

Abel's constant observation of the more subtle and unforeseen nuances that nature has generated, through accidental processes and slow transformations over time, stands as the essential foundation for the development of his work. In his meticulous gaze, every element of the environment, whose essence is revealed and can be contrasted through the textures, shapes, and colors that compose it, becomes an inexhaustible source of meanings and possibilities. This interaction with the natural world has endowed him with the ability to develop deeply personal interpretations, which emerge not only from observation but also from a critical and creative reflection that fosters the creation of new possibilities in the realm of everyday use.
The elements that for many remain invisible or marginal, relegated to oblivion in the everyday gaze, are precisely those that Abel strives to bring to the forefront, imbuing them with deep significance through his personal perspective and artistic appropriation. In this way, what seems trivial becomes a fertile ground for the creation of new forms of thought and expression. Abel does not settle for what is given; instead, through his constant practice of improvisation and experimentation, he reinvents the possibilities of the object, the space, and the action, challenging traditional conventions and demonstrating that the everyday can be a source of reflection.
The environment, in its seemingly chaotic complexity, offers not only a field of observation but also a laboratory for experimentation, a space where the accidental and the intentional intertwine. This process of transmutation, which involves reframing the surrounding world, grants him the ability to construct a new aesthetic and functional reality, one that is defined by its constant questioning and its capacity to generate innovative possibilities in daily life.
